THE EASIEST WAY TO PERFECT SMOKEY EYES

Let’s talk about the smokey eye. It’s one of the most coveted makeup looks of all, up there with matte lipstick, flawless foundation and subtle, defining contour. You don’t need to be a makeup artist to achieve this flatters-everyone look, but you will want to follow this guide to achieving the soft and sultry effect of dreams. Keep scrolling for your smokey eye step-by-step…

1. PRIME AND LINE

Start by priming lids with a concealer or Miracle Prep Eyeshadow Primer. It’s a sweep-on potion that prevents creasing, creates a smooth canvas and makes your smokey eyes look more intense.

Then, line your upper and lower lash line with a pencil eyeliner, like Kohl Pencil in Brown. Trace it all the way around your eye and use your finger to lightly smudge it out.

2. SMOKE IT OUT

Using your chosen colourway of Masterpiece Nude Eyeshadow Palette (our model wears Cappuccino Nudes), apply the darkest shade in the crease. Start at the outer corner of your eye and blend into the middle.

Once you’ve ‘framed’ your lid with the dark shade and buffed it up to the brow bone, use a clean brush to apply one of the medium hues from the inner corner of your eye out to the defined crease. Lightly swirl your brush to blend the two colours together.

Finally, brighten up your smokey eyes by applying the lightest shimmer to the inner corner, then tap the shade onto the brow bone for a soft, eye-awakening effect.

3. ENHANCE YOUR BROWS

A natural smokey eye deserves a polished brow look. Get your eyebrows looking flawless by using the brush on the lid of the Eyebrow Pencil to gently brush hairs upwards. Doing this reveals any sparse patches, so you can clearly see where you need to add definition.

Next, use the tip of the pencil to lightly sketch in the direction of hair growth. As well as filling the gaps, pay special attention to the highest point of your arch, and make sure you don’t over-fill the inner corner for the most natural-looking effect. Finish with Brow Revival eyebrow gel to add a little extra fullness.

4. FRAME SMOKEY EYES

Complete your sultry look with a sweep of Lash Revival Mascara. The combination of the separating brush and volumising formula creates a fuller flutter that enhances your smokey eye.

Looking for more ways to smoke it out? Here are four makeup-artist approved hacks…

Apply your smokey eye before foundation. This means, if you get any shadow drop-down, you can tidy it up when you begin applying your base makeup.

No eyeshadow? No problem. If you don’t have your favourite Masterpiece Nude Eyeshadow Palette to hand, use a coloured eyeliner to create smokey eyes instead. We love Masterpiece Kohl Kajal Pencil in Azure for this look, etched in four lines across the lid, then blended with your fingertip for a cloud of colour.

Add a bright-eyed touch to smokey eyes. If you’ve had a late night, ensure eyes still look fresh and dewy by finishing your sultry look with a nude eyeliner in the lower waterline. We go for Masterpiece Kohl Kajal Pencil in Beige.

If you want to try coloured eyeshadow, always consider your eye colour. We’ve created a guide to smokey eye makeup for blue, green, hazel and brown eyes.
