6 Makeup Tricks for the Mother of the Bride

You’ve got the outfit, the hat and tissues at the ready for your daughter’s big day... Now all you need is the perfect mother of the bride makeup look. Think your everyday, go-to routine, but better - highlighting your best features with a luminous, radiant finish that will leave you glowing all day. Read on for our six tips to achieving the perfect mother of the bride makeup, from getting camera-ready for the (many) photos, to ensuring makeup lasts through every emotion of the day. Take that, happy tears...

1. Prep to Perfect

A hydrating skincare regimen the morning of the big day will ensure your mother of the bride makeup has staying power. Start by cleansing skin with warm water, not hot – this will strip the skin of much-needed moisture. When applying your usual layers of serum and moisturiser, use a facial massage technique to encourage lymphatic drainage; smoothing, massaging and tap the formula all over the face and neck. Finish by patting eye cream around the eye contour to soothe and de-puff, instantly.

Prep skin for makeup by gliding on Miracle Prep Illuminating & Hydrating Primer using fingertips, giving your base something to grip on to. Then, dot and blend Miracle Prep Eyeshadow Primer onto lids and up to the brow bone for a silky, crease-free finish to eyeshadow. Prep, done.

2. Blend, Blend, Blend

To create the most natural-looking skin finish, go for a long-lasting base, like Facefinity All Day Flawless 3-in-1 Foundation; the perfect choice for an all-day event. Apply only to the centre of your face, then blend outwards to cheeks, chin and forehead using a flat tapered foundation brush, allowing natural skin to shine through. Don’t forget to sweep the foundation brush over ears too (especially if you’re wearing an up ‘do) and blend foundation down onto the chest for a seamless finish.

3. Get Camera-Ready

From perfectly-posed to caught-off-guard candid, create a picture-perfect look from every angle with a touch of contouring. To sculpt your features in a few sweeps, swirl a tapered powder brush into Bronzer, suck in cheeks and apply to the hollows, finishing in line with the top of your ear. Sweep the brush up to temples, around the hairline and underneath the jawline. Then, use a clean fluffy brush to blend bronzer out in large, circular motions, making sure to blend down your neck.

To finish, smile and dot your shade of Miracle Touch Creamy Blush onto the apples of cheeks, lightly blending upwards and outwards for a healthy, dewy flush of colour. The result? Glowing mother of the bride makeup in every single photo. Smile!

4. Lift and Illuminate

Light, shimmer washes of colour are perfect for creating a glowing mother of the bride makeup look. Sweep a soft gold shade of Masterpiece Nude Eyeshadow Palette in Golden Nudes onto primed eyelids, buffing into the eye socket and up to the brow bone to lift and illuminate the eye area. Using your fingertip, dot a lighter gold or champagne shade into the inner corner of the lid for an instant eye brightener.

For a lit-from-within glow, dot and blend the shimmering gold side of Miracle Glow Duo onto tops of cheekbones and your cupid’s bow, catching the light to build natural-looking radiance. Then, tap a little more of the highlighter underneath brow arches, lifting and sculpting eyebrows to perfection.

5. Create Definition

Reshape lips and define eyes and brows for a sculpted, yet natural makeup look. Create fuller lip volume by etching Colour Elixir Lip Liner around the cupid’s bow and the natural lip line to add definition, reshaping where needed to build volume. Veil lips in your shade of Colour Elixir Lipstick, guided by your new lip line, for a naturally plump finish.

For defined eyes, glide Kohl Pencil in Brown along the upper and lower lash lines, lightly smudging with a cotton bud to soften. A smokey brown shade is ideal for day-to-night mother of the bride makeup, giving a more natural-looking feel than classic black. Finish by sculpting brows with the Eyebrow Pencil, brushing upwards and etching in any gaps with the pointed tip.

6. Make it Waterproof

We all know it’s going to be an emotional day, and you’ll want mother of the bride makeup to last as long as possible. Sweep False Lash Effect Mascara in Waterproof Black through lashes, starting at the root to really lift lashes upwards. Hold the mascara wand at the tip of lashes to lock in curl, then repeat until every lash is coated. Using a waterproof formula will keep lashes looking full and fanned-out, even through the happy tears.

To extend the wear of your base, use a soft pad to tap and roll Crème Puff Face Powder under eyes, t-zones and chin, setting makeup in place without taking away that dewy glow. A final spritz of Lasting Performance Setting Spray will hydrate while setting makeup in place all day. Flawless.
