Makeup Expiration
It’s important to get rid of makeup when it is too old — it could contain contaminants that cause skin problems. Here’s a general breakdown for how long makeup lasts:
  • Lipstick: 1 year
  • Eye makeup: 3 months
  • Blush: 6 months
  • Nail polish: 2 years (if stored properly)

Brush Cleaning
To clean makeup brushes, pour a mild household liquid soap, like baby shampoo or Ivory liquid soap, into the palm of your hand and mix with water. Use your hand as a cup for the warm, soapy water and swirl brushes in your palm until they are clean. Rinse well, then gently squeeze excess water from the brush and let air dry. Don't soak brushes in the sink — too much time in water can loosen the bristles and ruin your brush.

Sharpening Liners
Before sharpening your eyeliner or lip pencil, place it in the freezer for around 10 minutes. It will harden slightly and not break when sharpened. And here’s a bonus: Use an old toothbrush to clean out your sharpener.
